Manufacturing

All Progress Mining components are designed in Australia by our team of expert engineers.

Australian Design

All Progress Mining components are designed in Australia by our team of expert engineers. Using the latest software our engineers create technical drawings and 3D model designs, evaluating casting and finishing dimensions. These are used to generate casting simulations which allow for casting and heat treatment parameter analysis. Precision in the design process ensures that every component designed by our team meet our customers’ requirements.

Pattern Shop

Our Australian engineers work hand in hand with our manufacturing factory in Europe. Once the 3D design is completed the pattern shop in the factory creates full size models made from wood or aluminium. These models are used to generate the sand and resin molds used in the casting process. It is the attention to detail, precision and accuracy used when creating these models that form the high-quality foundations of all Progress Mining components.

Casting

The next step in the manufacturing process is casting. Our European factory has six induction furnaces that can melt up to 40,000 tons of liquid metal per year. Equipped with advanced control systems, the furnaces can reach temperatures of up to 1600 °C to melt the scrap and alloy mixtures used in the manufacturing process. Once the molten metal is ready it is poured into the molds where the components take shape.

Heat Treament

After casting heat treatment is essential to ensure that all components are rendered strong and durable. Our specialised heat treatment furnaces use precise temperature control and controlled cooling. These processes ensure that all components have the optimal mechanical strength and physical durability needed to tolerate harsh operating environments and applications.

Machining

Strength and durability are not the only features of Progress Mining products, superior surface quality and precision finishing are also crucial to the high quality of our components. To achieve these high standards our factories machining facility uses advanced horizontal and vertical CNC lathes, machining centres and boring machines.

Induction Hardening

Induction hardening uses electromagnetic induction to heat treat component running surfaces. This process ensures that Progress Mining component running surfaces have exceptional durability and wear resistance. Our factory uses three types of induction hardening equipment, offering a comprehensive approach resulting in the highest quality results. Our induction hardening equipment caters for sprockets, track shoes, idlers and rollers across a wide range of sizes. This adaptability gives us the flexibility to provide tailored hardening solutions to our customers.

Testing

Building off our suppliers existing ISO 9001:2015 certified quality systems, and 30 plus years of experience in the supply of heavy undercarriage components, Progress Mining has introduced best practices in design, manufacturing, and material specifications. Bringing this all together is our ongoing audits of the factory, along with 100% dimensional and material certification that requires sign off before any products are accepted.

Prior to product release, all parts are rigorously destructively tested to Progress Mining manufacturing
specifications. These specifications have been developed from a dedicated 15 years’ experience in design, manufacture, and field support of mining class undercarriage with exposure to all major OEMs.

The result is a guarantee that products are delivered to OEM equivalent specifications or better.
