Coal mining in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin presents harsh operating conditions that are taxing on the machinery operating in the area. Progress Mining undercarriage components have proven once again to be up to the challenge. The latest condition monitoring report on a P&H 2800 XPA demonstrates how regular inspections can transform into cost savings for our customers.

Condition Monitoring services are provided free by Progress Mining to all our customers, on-site inspections play a vital role in this process. Reports are generated using data gathered through observations and the use of platform specific inspection gauges measuring component wear. At the time of the latest inspection of the P&H 2800 XPA, the Progress Mining components had been working on the machine for 12,000 hours. The data collected shows that component wear rates are very low and component life projections are exceeding expectations. At 12,000 hours the tracks and sprockets are still less than 20% worn.

Above: Charts extracted from the Condition Monitoring Report on the P&H® 2800 XPA Delta Drive show the progression of wear on the tracks and sprockets, based on inspections carried out at multiple stages throughout the component’s service life.

The wear rates shown in this report are very low and Progress Mining component life projections are exceeding expectations. This is an example of the benefits of regular undercarriage inspections; they help track component condition and build confidence in component wear rates and life projections. The insights gained through these inspections allow our team and the customer to better plan undercarriage change outs based on conditions instead of hours. This results in cost savings due to less machine down time and fewer component changeouts over time.
