Liebherr© R9400 hydraulic excavator platform with link system

The market is always looking for suppliers that can innovate and create answers to their problems.

At Progress Mining we are seeing customers with certain applications where current link designs aren’t up to heavy duty requirements. Mine sites that run 500 and 200 ton diggers currently have to split undercarriage supply between two vendors. To help resolve this problem Progress Mining has developed a series of new link system designs that cover Hitachi® EX1800 and EX1900, Komatsu® PC2000 and Liebherr® R9200, R9250, R9350, R9400 link system hydraulic excavator platforms. This means that Progress Mining can be the one trusted vendor that monitors and services all machines in your fleet. Just over 12 months ago Progress Mining’s new link design was fitted to a Liebherr® R9400 hydraulic excavator platform on a mine site located in northern Queensland, Australia.

Before the installation the entire fleet was regularly monitored, with track inspections conducted over an 18-month period to ascertain the wear and status of all undercarriage components. After this extended monitoring period it was decided to fit the Liebherr® R9400 excavator with a Progress Mining undercarriage as a trial. Since then, Progress Mining has continued to conduct inspections on this machine and all others in the fleet.

Above: The team at Progress Mining has developed specialised platform specific gauges to accurately measure component wear over time. The data gathered is used to generate condition reports that allow the mine sites to monitor the status of all machine undercarriage component wear, making planned maintenance easier and more efficient.

The latest condition report for the Liebherr® R9400 excavator shows that after 12 months on the machine all Progress Mining components are still in very good condition and performing very well in the harsh operating conditions.

Above: The chart above is just one of the elements used in the Progress Mining Undercarriage Condition Report to track component wear. Data like this is essential in helping predict the longevity of components in different working conditions. This helps better plan for parts reorders and maintenance, reducing machine down time.
So far, the north Queensland mine site is very happy with the performance of the Progress Mining undercarriage components, which are performing better than anticipated. They are also very pleased with the invaluable information that is provided by our Condition Monitoring Service.
